Safety tips for the 4th of July



Each year injuries and fires results from the use of illegal fireworks

Here are some safety tips to be aware of

1. Buy and use legal fireworks

2. Follow directions and safety recommendation printed on the fireworks

3. Maintain adult supervision and keep all fireworks out of the hands of children

4. Use fireworks in an area clear of materials that can burn (grass, bark, trees)

5. Trim any tall grass close to building or fences

6. Clean all gutters and move burnable materials away from homes

7. Keep garden hoses ready

8. Wet down fireworks display area

9. Light one item at a time, move away quickly and keep a safe distance

10. Do not attempt to re-light duds, wait several minutes before disposing of them in water

11. Dispose of used fireworks by first soaking them in water

12. Place minor burns in cool water; call 9-1-1 if you need further assistance

13. Laws on what can be purchased and discharged are different in each city

14. The tip of a sparkler burns at 2,000 degrees and should never touch the skin or clothing
